This list was compiled by George Frederick Kunz, in addition to still being the leading authority on the folklore of gemstones he was a gemologist for Tiffany & Co. in the early 19th century. He first proposed this chart in his 1913 book in response to the inaccuracies found within the Modern chart, created by the National Association of Jewelers in 1912.
