This list was first adopted as the official list of birthstones by the National Association of Jewelers in 1912, despite the fact that it is the most recent it is the one most people are familiar with today. Though this chart is the popular with modern jewelers, the jewelers association took several liberties in regards to traditional folklore and stone placement. So much so that when it was first released several leading authorities including George Fredrick Kunz strongly disputed it. |
