Ieb

Ieb refers to the organ we call the heart. There seems to be some discrepancy as to whether this symbol represents a literal heart like that of a sheep, or a figurative one in the shape of a vase. In either case this symbol represents the seat of the soul to early Egyptians. The heart was said to be the container from which all thought originated, it was the essence of what we would call self. This is why the organ was one of the few not removed during mummification, and why it is the heart that is measured against the Maat's feather in the after life.
