The list of stones most quoted as “zodiac stones”. These are actually from George Fredrick Kuntz’s text The Curious Lore of Precious Stones. It he does not tell us from where he derived his information but the context of the poem he offers suggests and older source, possibly middle English. It should be noted that unlike birthstones and other astrological associations the stones listed by Kuntz seem intended to ward off the negative effects or associations of the sign it is listed for, rather than represent the sign or bring good luck to the individual. It is this reason we list these stones as Talismanic stones, a historically more appropriate name; rather than the title offered in his book. It should be noted Kuntz does offer us a chart he labels “Talismanic Stones”, however this is nothing more than a process of relegating the stone associated with the month to the sign which begins in that month.
